The University of Oregon Historic Preservation Program invites applications for a full-time tenured position at the rank of associate professor or full professor, to begin in fall 2016.  This faculty member, an endowed chair position, will be based in Portland and will direct the Historic Preservation Program, located in Portland and Eugene, Oregon.  The successful candidate for this position will be an outstanding academic leader who conducts groundbreaking research and professional practice, will play a key role in shaping the future direction of the HP Program, will maintain a commitment to innovative pedagogy and curriculum development, and will enjoy close mentoring of students.


A terminal graduate degree is required and a record of significant research or practice achievements are required, as is a clearly articulated research agenda relevant to historic preservation.  Accordingly, the candidate should demonstrate a deep commitment to intellectual inquiry in teaching activities, in scholarly research and publication, and in professional practice.  Applicants should demonstrate evidence of college or university teaching excellence, other leadership experience in historic preservation, administrative skills, and active professional service.  A strong regional interest in the West or Pacific Northwest is desirable, as is significant scholarly interest in vernacular architecture, urban historic buildings, historic building technology, cultural studies in historic preservation, or another specialization closely related to the field.
